Why do you want to be a Siren? I’m really excited to be joining the Sirens, I’ve always loved the music and can’t wait to get into singing those harmonies and embrace all the vintage glamour the group brings.

Who is your favourite ‘golden oldie’ artist?My taste in music is pretty eclectic, when it comes to golden oldies I’d have to say Judy Garland (I was brought up on her MGM films) and I do love Tony Bennett and Frank Sinatra too.

Who is your favourite modern artist?I listen to a lot of new musical theatre, am a big fan of Sara Bareilles and I also love groups like Postmodern Jukebox who are giving songs a jazzy vintage twist.

Do you have any pets?Although I don’t have any pets at the moment I definitely consider myself a cat-lady, I grew up with a lucky black cat!

Where are you from?I was born in Derby but grew up in Nottingham so I’ve been on both sides of Midlands rivalry!

Why do you want to be a Siren? I want to be a Siren because I love the era! The fashion, the music, the sound and the attitude. Plus who doesn’t want to sing in gorgeous three part harmony with your fabulous fellow sisters with sweet moves to boot.

Who is your favourite ‘golden oldie’ artist?Fred Astaire is my favourite golden oldie. I grew up watching his films, my Granddad taped them for me whenever they came on TV, and he has an incredible grace and ease when he dances and when he sings.

Who is your favourite modern artist?My favourite modern artist is actually Postmodern Jukebox. They are incredible musicians and their covers are always better than the original.

Do you have any pets?I don’t currently have any pets but I used to have a cat called Slatie. She was black and grey, I was only 11 so I thought ‘Slate’ was a cool name. Safe to say she quickly became Slatie and it got very confusing with a sister called Katy…

Hello!

I’m Alison and I’m the brunette Siren Sister. I became fully enrolled in the sisterhood in January this year, which has been most exciting. I trained as an actress and worked as a performer for about seven years. When I’m not wearing my Siren wig, I run my own company called Yello Brick and we make street games, roaming theatre and digital experiences.

I’m in love with vintage – particularly 1940s and 1950s clothing and hair styles. I’m often found scouring charity shops and ebay for vintage bargains but there is a danger that my wardrobe is going to collapse under the weight of the dresses that I have squeezed in there over time!

I spend my spare time in the garden, listening to music, reading and I have to admit to being a closet box-set watcher. This year I have started growing vegetables in the garden – I have harvested green beans, broccoli, radishes, lettuces, peas and one stumpy carrot! I’ve just discovered Lennon and Maisy, a sister singing duo, who are just truly amazing and I can’t stop listening to them. Any box set and book recommendations are always welcome.

Hello, I’m Sarah, the blonde Siren! I set up the trio about 4 years ago after moving home to Wales from London, where I had trained in musical theatre and lived for 5 years working as a performer and a singing teacher.

I absolutely LOVE old things!  Old songs, old films, old clothes, old buildings, old pictures of places I know…you get the idea! I do have a younger boyfriend though so I’m not sure what happened there.

I also absolutely love animals and I am a vegan.  I have six pet rabbits; Monkey, Casper, May, Dylan, Fred and Ginger, who are all such individual and funny characters. I also rescue and rehome unwanted rabbits, all from my little garden in Penylan.  It’s a lot of work but rabbits are the most neglected pets in the UK, so I felt I needed to do something to help them out.

My other love is the outdoors.  My idea of a relaxing day is at the beach or up a mountain, somewhere where there is space – It’s probably because I have always lived in a city.  I prefer to exercise outdoors too and train a few times a week with Outdoor Fitness, a military style bootcamp. Last year I completed Tough Mudder, a half-marathon of very muddy assault courses which included the Arctic Enema and and the Electric Eel (yes, electrocution!), and this year I am doing the Superhuman Games in Bristol…I really need to get training more for that one!

Spotlight on Helena-May

Hello!

I’m the red-head of the trio, but underneath my Siren Sister exterior, I hide a secret … I’m actually platinum-blonde! Well, that’s when I’m not pink, or purple, or red, or blue… the other girls lose track. It’s not just the crazy colour either, I try to have the wildest hairstyles possible with what little hair I have (it’s very short … but I’m not balding) and I have my hairdresser, Debbie, on speed dial!

I’m also obsessed with herbal tea! ALL herbal tea. You can find me sipping green tea in the most unlikely of places and situations… it’s not on the rider yet though! ☺ Birthday gifts from the lovely Sirens always have a tea theme, which is brilliant as I’ll never run out of the yummy stuff or tea accessories for that matter.

I live in an apartment by the seaside out of the hustle and bustle of Cardiff city centre. It’s lovely, especially on beautifully sunny days like today because I’m on the top floor and have a perfect view of the sea. That makes me think, I should take a stroll down to the beach now with a cuppa’ in hand showing off my newly created hair. No one will ever recognise me ☺

Hello!

We have been very, very, busy here at Siren HQ giving The Siren Sisters a huge makeover!  Well… the website anyway!  Us girls are pretty enough ;-)

The new website has been designed by Sarah Chong with all the artwork hand-drawn by our lovely friend Alistair at Slightly Wobbly Designs.  Alistair has been drawing so much for us that we are worried he will be able to retire soon and become a gentleman of leisure. He already describes himself as ‘an avid dickie-bow wearer’, and we know he likes a tipple, so we think it will suit him ☺

It’s not just the website that is brand new though, everything is!  This is a brand new blog where we will be keeping you up to date with what we get up to at our shows, our news, plans for the future, ticket releases, related articles about vintage stuff and anything else that we think you might like to know! ☺  If you’d like to subscribe to our blog so that you never miss a post, please do by adding your email to the form to your right and hitting subscribe – we will love you forever.

We now have a video blog too and are slowly getting used to having a camera shoved in our faces backstage and in the van!  It’s not good when you’ve removed all of your make-up in the early hours of the morning but it’s all part of the job I guess.  We will try to spare you any disturbing images of us barefaced but sometimes they are just too funny.

Perhaps the most exciting news though is the release of our first ever album, Now & Then.  It features 10 of our favourite songs with the added bonus of a vintage mix for each of those songs.  You can buy it from our very first shop where we hope to offer you other goodies too… There won’t be edible goodies though because none of us can cook so you will have to be happy with CDs, posters, and postcards. In the future, we’d like to make shopper bags too, especially as the rest of UK have now followed the Welsh lead and have started charging for horrid plastic bags that hurt the planet.  We are hoping they will be in the pipeline soon but please feel free to let us know what you think.

Sorry, back to the album… Our very own Ian Bamford mixed it, he is our sound engineer and he comes with us to every show to make sure we sound good. He has had the painstaking task of listening to our voices every day for the last two months. A lovely chap called Dan Thomas, who used a mixing desk that was once owned by Gorrilaz, mastered the album in London. That’s probably the closest we’ll ever get to working with Gorillaz but we don’t mind because their old desk, and Dan’s mastering talents, have made the album sound amazing! Though, Damon, if you are reading this, yes we will tour with you but Alistair will be taking over as your animator from now on – that is a deal breaker.
